Peros launches Jimmy’s Iced Coffee

Peros is offering two lines - Original and Skinny - which they will supply into the foodservice sector. Jimmy’s Iced Coffee contains ethically sourced coffee and is the only chilled RTD coffee drink made with British milk.  It is supplied in convenient, lightweight cartons which are re-sealable - ideal for on-the-go drinking - and recyclable.

The British Sandwich Association updates its logo

The new logo, which has been launched in advance of British Sandwich Week (May 12-18), follows a year of celebration in 2012 to mark the 250th Anniversary of the Sandwich. The Association has also announced plans to increase activity around British Sandwich Week this year with greater presence for the campaign at point-of-sale, consumer competitions and an attempt at a world sandwich making record.    The British Sandwich Industry Awards, also known as the Sammies, will also be taking place during the Week.

Research has found that consumers munch their way through well over 760m out of home (OOH) servings of bacon each year. For chefs and caterers, having a variety of cured, smoked and traditional bacons in the kitchen is essential to pack flavour into dishes and deliver customer satisfaction. The Week will drive awareness for bacon, its versatility and encourage consumers to look for quality assured bacon, including Red Tractor, when shopping and eating out.

The programme is being developed by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and CESA’s involvement will be a key part of a high profile launch with Michael Hancock, Skills Minister, during Apprenticeship Week, 11th-15th March 2013. Institute of Hospitality survey reveals health of the industry's workforce

Seven out of 10 managers said they exercise at least once a week and with 11% exercising on a daily basis. The vast majority of managers who took part in the survey do not smoke (87.7%) and over three quarters (76%) said they drink 10 or fewer alcoholic drinks a week and 11% do not drink at all. But the survey wasn’t all good news. More than a third of respondents (35.8%) said they feel stressed at work either often or every day.

Brits ‘double their spending’ in restaurants and cafés in last decade

In its latest ‘The Way We Pay’ report, figures showed that entertainment spending has risen by over 60%, outstripping the growth in consumer spending by over a quarter. Spending in restaurants and cafés soared by 102% over the 10-year period but pubs didn’t fare as well with just a 7% rise. In total, Brits spent £58 billion having fun last year, almost one and a half times as much as they paid for gas and electricity (£34 billion).

The accolade is one of seven Best Drink awards up for grabs from the BSA which will also see deserving teashops, restaurants and cafés, including mobile operations and outlets in hotels and bars, receive national accreditation in the form of a 1-5 ‘cup’ rating that operators can display in windows. The BSA awards are open to members and non-members with outlets being judged by independent, anonymous trained assessors for their beverage quality and service levels.
