Hospitality & leisure sector most likely to take on apprentices

In the last year 31% of all hospitality and leisure businesses surveyed stated that they had taken on apprentices, and a further 44% – the highest percentage of any sector – plan to take on further apprentices this year. That figures compares to national cross-sector average of 27%.

New world record in sandwich making

The new record more than doubled the previous official record best, set by restaurant chain Subway. Sandwich lovers from across the UK gathered at the event, organised by the British Sandwich Association, to launch its ‘Love Lunch' campaign encouraging people to take a regular lunch break. Research conducted by the British Sandwich Association has shown that more than 25% of adults in the UK don't even make time for the legal 20 minute break in the working day and that over 20% admit to regularly skipping lunch altogether.

Domino's Pizza crowns its Supervisor of the Year

The event recently took place at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. Sidhu was recognised for his ability to multi-task, as well as his people skills, passion and energy for the brand. He works as an area supervisor and is responsible for six Domino’s stores located in north east Hampshire. At the start of 2012, there were four stores in Sidhu’s area, with that increasing to six by the end of the year.

BSA Awards attract over 200 entries this year

Nominations have been received from cafes, restaurants, tea shops and new for this year have been entries from beverage carts – stationary coffee outlets in out of town retail centres. As with the Michelin Guide, only anonymous trained assessors will provide accurate and impartial assessments of an outlet’s beverages and service. This process will begin this month with the second round of assessing in July.
