Deli-cious Deli & Café opens at Weston Park

Colin Sweeney, chief executive of the Weston Park Foundation, the charitable trust that owns and maintains Weston Park outlines, the exciting project. “In 2012 we closed our Butchery in the farm shop and introduced a Deli Counter in its place which proved to be hugely popular with our customers.  This led to a re-think of the product offering and we decided to make this the focus of the shop going forward. 

BSA reports great success at Caffe Culture

Martyn Herriott, executive director, commented on the show: “At Caffé Culture, our stand was continually busy with BSA members and new businesses seeking information on how to join the Association. They also wanted to receive impartial information on barista and customer service training. “We were particularly inundated with requests for barista training via our existing City & Guilds course. This support has led to further calls for an advanced barista course which we have already begun developing.”

lunch! shortlisted for Best Trade Show award for fourth year running

The recently announced nominations see lunch! up for its fourth consecutive Best Trade Show Exhibition (under 2,000sqm) Award – an accolade that the event first won at the AEO’s Excellence Awards in 2010 (followed by a second triumph in 2011).  The lunch! team will also be defending its Best Marketing Campaign of the Year Award, which it won last year.

Restaurant chain Giraffe launches first mobile app

The app will offer two different rewards – a free takeaway coffee and 50% off food, both of which can be redeemed after a number of visits have been reached.   The app draws upon existing QR Code technology using an in-built scanner to add virtual stamps onto the loyalty cards. Customers who download the app before the end of June, will receive one free pre-loaded stamp for each offer. Users can also gift each other stamps and swap them with friends by entering their email address.  

Domino’s crowns its fastest pizza maker in the UK

Domino’s Pizza held its annual Fastest Pizza Maker competition final at its recent annual awards in Liverpool and Zagros Jaff came first, with a time of 51.57 seconds – a time that four years ago would have bagged him a world record.

London Coffee Festival 2013 – a sell out

The event, which took place from 25-28 April at the Old Truman Brewery, reached unprecedented attendee levels of 16,209 (a 38% increase from 11,728 in 2012), attracted more than 160 exhibitors and raised more than £50,000 for Project Waterfall, the charitable initiative delivering clean drinking water in African coffee-making countries. The hybrid event, which extended from one to two industry days this year, also welcomed 10,000 consumers through the doors during the four days.

Healthy eating chain Tossed secures £1.5m funding from Santander

The funding follows the management buyout of Beringea in April 2013, led by Vincent Mckevitt, Tossed’s founder and managing director, and Neil Sebba, financial director. The business plans to open at least another eight stores in the coming 12-18 months, and is focusing on its London heartland. Its flagship store reopens at Westfield London this weekend after refurbishing, with a new design and menu, whilst its latest store at Houndsditch, London EC3, which opened this week, has already become a City hit.

Sandwich Designer of the Year crowned

Cantrell was one of 30 finalists in the competition, held by the British Sandwich Association, which was held at the London Lancaster Hotel in Mayfair this week after winning through his regional final earlier in the year. Cantrell held his nerve to wow the judging panel, which included representatives from across the sandwich industry, with his stunning Gluten Free Tofu and Soya Nut Bahn Mi, British Root Vegetables and Vietnamese Chutney.
