Lexington Catering gets juicy

The catering company has started by introducing three of its juices across a selection of its sites, all of which are available pre-blitzed on the day or customers can select the fruit and vegetable pot and have it juiced up to order. Organisers of the event, The Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, have provisionally set a limit for entries at 1,000 pies due to the logistics of tasting that many pies in one day. The event will take place in St. Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray on Wednesday 30th April 2014 Pies are entered in 19 different categories this year and judged independently by pie experts, celebrity chefs and acclaimed food writers.

Businesses of all sizes can now download a free online guide focusing on how they can capitalise on the Games and other events, including the Ryder Cup and Scottish Homecoming. In addition, businesses with up to 250 staff will be able to claim free passes for the WorldHost Insights customer service e-learning programme. The guide, called ‘Ahead of the Games,’ contains practical hints and tips for businesses in the vicinity of the events, as well as links to additional resources that will help them maximise the opportunities on offer throughout 2014.

An estimated 21 million people in the UK have at least one allergy, while the gluten-free market – now worth around £136m – is expanding. The new EU Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU FIR 1169/2011), which comes into force on 13 December 2014, requires both manufacturers and caterers to warn customers of the presence of 14 key allergens, including nuts and gluten.

Caterer Vacherin starts year with over £3m of new contracts

These new deals will add a combined turnover in excess of £3m over the duration of the three year contracts and expand the Vacherin team by 20. For Hiscox, Vacherin will provide catering and office services to the 600 Hiscox staff on site.  The all-day Art Café, surrounded by a wonderful range of original artworks from the Hiscox collection, will serve breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day, and the team will also provide hospitality and fine dining.  

Aramark renews contract with Robert Gordon University (RGU)

The contract is underway and is in place until 2019.  It means Aramark will now provide services across eight catering sites instead of the previous six for the university’s 13,500 students and 1,500 staff. Customer insight and the drive to deliver service excellence were at the core of Aramark’s proposals for a new contract.  Aramark’s research led it to develop new food concepts, as well as offering a licensed Costa Coffee store in the new Riverside East building.

The programme – Healthy for Life – will be led by Aramark’s newly-appointed Health and Wellbeing Manager, Candice West, who joins the company from HSBC where she managed employee health and wellbeing.   Healthy for Life will combine both food & nutrition and broader initiatives to provide a comprehensive employee health and wellbeing service across Aramark’s accounts.
