Michael Wyatt, Greater Anglia’s business manager for on board catering, said: “The trollies are proving very popular with customers and we’re pleased to offer this extra level of customer service during their journeys.”
The service has been in place for 12 weeks.
Greater Anglia plans to continue to operate trollies through standard class, including when new trains arrive from 2019.
Over the next few months the on board catering team will supply new products, including freshly-ground coffee.
Trollies have been reintroduced to 24 services per day to ‘improve customer service’ on morning peak, lunch time and evening peak trains.
There are 10 on board staff operating the trolley service from Greater Anglia’s team of 70 catering employees, who will continue to staff the café bar which is available on most Intercity services throughout the day. A Greater Anglia spokesperson said no extra staff have been recruited for this in-house service.
Previously the trolley service only operated in first class giving out free refreshments, but Greater Anglia said it has seen more and more first class customers collecting their free refreshments from the buffet car, so decided to put the catering trollies to better use.
