Chartwells secures Roehampton University catering contract

15th Jun 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
Chartwells, part of the Compass Group UK and Ireland, has won a five year contract to provide student catering at each of Roehampton University's four campuses.
The contract, which is worth £2.2 million a year, also includes hospitality for weddings, corporate fun days and summer school provision. Roehampton University has already achieved Fairtrade Status and Chartwells will be supplying Fairtrade products including coffee, sugar, chocolate and comedian Harry Hill's salted peanuts, Harry's Nuts!, to all of the University's eating outlets. Fairtrade products are sold below the recommended retail price to raise the profile and popularity of the commodities among students. As well as supporting Fairtrade in its student and hospitality catering, Chartwells has pledged to place the environment at the heart of all it does by continuing to recycle all food waste, cooking oil, glass, paper and card and by looking into further recycling programmes. In addition, Chartwells has guaranteed to comply with the internationally recognised management system standard ISO 14001 (management of the environment) within the year. Tim Cozens, assistant director of Facilities, Roehampton University, said: "Roehampton University is a great place to study, work and live, and by working with Chartwells we hope to take full advantage of centralising catering to enhance the experience of students, staff and visitors alike." Tony Byrne, business director, Chartwells, continued: "Chartwells is committed to three philosophies: Eat, Learn, Live. 'Live' relates specifically to promoting a safe and sustainable environment that supports the health and well-being of not only our customers and clients but also the wider community. "Working with Roehampton University to raise the profile of Fairtrade produce and environmental issues means that we can make a great difference."
