Abstract
Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum is to host a keynote seminar: Next steps for obesity policy: calorie reduction, the Responsibility Deal and Health and Wellbeing Boards. It will take place in central London on February 7th 2013.

Among the speakers lined up to address delegates are Richard Cienciala, deputy director of obesity and food policy at the Department of Health and his ministry colleague Liz Woodeson, director of health and wellbeing.

Other input will come from Bill Bartlett of supplier McCain Foods; Caroline Cromar of coffee and sandwich chain Pret; Sue Davies of Which?; Caroline Fry of Charlton House Catering Services; Professor David Haslam of the National Obesity Forum and Luton & Dunstable Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Professor Philip James of the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO).

The event will be chaired by Roger Williams MP, who is vice chair of the Associate Parliamentary Food and Health Group

Organisers say the seminar will offer a timely opportunity to discuss the next steps for tackling obesity. It will mark a year on the ‘Healthy Lives, Healthy People’ call to action on obesity and is also timed to coincide with Health and Wellbeing Boards taking on statutory functions.

Discussion is being structured to bring out the latest thinking on the impact of the Public Health Responsibility Deal and what more can be done to encourage healthy attitudes towards food and exercise.

Further sessions will also focus on what is being done by industry and more widely towards meeting ‘national ambitions’ of reducing the national calorie intake by 5 billion calories a day and working towards a downward trend in excess weight in children and adults by 2020.
