Abstract
A new 'Healthier Eating Out Guide' has just been launched by the Tower Hamlets Healthy Borough to make it easier to eat whilst on the go.
The guide lists all local cafés, takeaways and restaurants that are part of the Healthy Borough's Food for Health Awards. Locals can pick up a handy guide at leisure centres, health centres and eateries which are part of the Food for Health Awards or simply download a copy from the council (www.towerhamlets.gov.uk) website. Abigail Gilbert, public health adviser for NHS Tower Hamlets, said: ''People often eat out so it's really important we work with food businesses in Tower Hamlets to ensure they offer the healthiest choices. The new guide makes it easier to find healthier places to eat locally, particularly in takeaways where it can be challenging to find healthier solutions." Keith Williams, Healthy Borough Programme manager at Tower Hamlets Council, added: "We're the only London borough offering such a guide. It has the potential to boost business for local eateries and at the same time give people more healthier options." The Healthier Eating out Guide is one of the ways the Tower Hamlets Food for Health Awards is trying to reduce obesity. The award scheme also runs regular free healthier frying, catering and nutrition workshops for local food businesses. If you operate a food business in Tower Hamlets and would like to participate in the Food for Health Awards and get your business included in the next Healthier Eating out Guide contact Altan Ahmet on 020 7364 6738 or visit www.towerhamlets.gov.uk.
