Third Zero Waste Challenge exceeds target by 10,000 items
Abstract
To mark the end of Recycling Week, service provider ISS has announced the third annual Zero Waste Challenge (ZWC) exceeded its target by saving 90,000 items from going to waste on 5 June 2019 (World Environment Day).

The ZWC was established in 2016 for ISS clients, partners and individuals to reduce their waste. In 2017 and 2018 the total waste items saved were 143,000.

For 2019 the challenge was opened to all individuals and organisations. This year 142 organisations across 50 countries took part (with 23% of the 18,264 participants coming from external organisations).

Matthew Brabin, chief executive of ISS UK & Ireland, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the initiative launched by our people in the UK two years ago, and even more so of the positive results and positive impact we have made at a global and local level.

“We have demonstrated how we can combine innovation with the power of the human touch to safeguard our environment for the future.”

The top three countries to reduce waste included the UK, Indonesia and Denmark.

Tim Proctor, Director of Health, Safety, and Environment at Quality & Corporate Responsibility ISS UK, added: “Small, local changes can make a big difference globally when we collaborate and work together.

“In the UK, our #ThinkForward@ISS strategy embraces the beneficial impact we can have on our communities and to drive sustainable choices. Initiatives such as the ZWC are proof of our commitment across our business to support everyone of our people to do the right thing, in everything they do, every time they do it.”
