Abstract
A group of 12 catering students from UK colleges will be going head-to-head in the final of this year’s British Poultry Student Chef of the Year cook-off.

The event will take place at University College Birmingham on Thursday May 31.

UK catering colleges are invited to create a starter or main course dish using British turkey meat.

Clay Burrows, one of the judges and MD of Aviagen Turkeys, which is sponsoring the event, said: “We’re once again delighted to be supporting this great competition.

“The standard of entries improves year on year, showing just how versatile turkey is and how it lends itself to a wide range of dishes and cooking techniques from the traditional to more modern.”

The winning dishes will be recreated at the British Poultry Awards ceremony, held at The Sheraton Park Lane Hotel on September 20.

They are looking for dishes with originality and innovation, fitted to a British theme.

The winner will receive CCS Catering vouchers worth £300 (Best Starter or Best Main Course), with £500 going to the winner’s college.

The winner will also receive two days’ work experience at The Sheraton Park Lane Hotel and the chance to recreate their dishes at the awards dinner, which will cater for over 300 guests and VIPs from the British Poultry and related industries.
