HCL said they wanted to celebrate Michael’s success in winning the title, while showcasing the quality of their school meals. HCL contacted County Hall to see if there was an opportunity to cook for the county’s councillors, with the additional aim of showcasing the high quality of school cooks.
A team from HCL set up County Hall, laying and decorating the tables for the special lunch and were allowed to bring in specialised equipment. They used a local school as a finishing kitchen and transported the food in, ready to go, finishing the dessert on site.
A total of 42 people were served lunch. Several councillors congratulated Michael after the lunch on being the first male to win the national final and complimented him on his dishes, according to HCL. The council said one of the comments included: “School meals are in a good place if this is what you are offering on a daily basis!”
