Abstract
The Savoy Educational Trust celebrated 50 years of supporting advancement and the development of education training and qualifications in the hospitality industry with a commemorative reception at The Savoy Hotel in London.
Ramon Pajares, the new chairman of the Savoy Educational Trust talked about the great work the independent charitable trust has done over the past 50 years, highlighting how important it was to support young people and inspire them to work in the hospitality industry, and also gave guests a snapshot of the Trust's plans for the future. Springboard UK chairman Anne Pierce spoke about how her organisation has worked closely with the Trust for 15 years, and the University of West London's vice chancellor, Peter John, shared the college's experience of how the £750,000 grant awarded by the Trust had been used to build the new state of the art teaching and learning centre now known as the Savoy Educational Trust Leadership Development Suite. Guests, who included trustees and leading figures from the hospitality industry, gathered for champagne and canapés served "theatre style" from four food stations around the hotel's Abraham Lincoln room. Asian, Spanish, English and American food included dishes comprising assorted sashimi, squid and chorizo salad with lemon anchovy vinaigrette, crabmeat fritters and chips and green martini with avocado salad and basil foam. Guests were also presented with a copy of a special edition booklet entitled: Making the Difference, with a foreword written by Prince Charles, and a DVD showcasing a selection of projects in eight colleges and two universities where Trust's funding has helped including training kitchens and restaurant facilities. Following the reception Ramon Pajares commented: "It was a truly great evening and a privilege to be hosting the event as the new chairman. The Savoy Educational Trust has a tremendous track record in helping improve the standard of hospitality training and education in the UK today and I'm delighted so many great people came along to show their support." • For more information on the Savoy Educational Trust, visit www.savoyeducationaltrust.org.uk and for a copy of the booklet or DVD, contact Clare Basire on clare@williammurray.co.uk
