Abstract
To help caterers navigate price changes, plan menus and source alternative products, Pelican Procurement has published its Q4 Market Report, which aims to offer insights into current market conditions, price trends, product availability and effective buying strategies.
From cost of living to climate change, Pelican’s procurement business analyst Alex Gess shares the latest market conditions impacting food and non-food product availability for Q4 2023 (July – September).
Current market conditions:
- Cost of living: The most recent financial reports bring encouraging news, as there has been a reduction in the inflation rate from 7.9% in July to 6.7% in August.
- Climate change: In a single year, we’ve witnessed record-breaking weather patterns, experiencing the wettest, hottest, and driest conditions both at home and abroad.
- Global conflicts: The ongoing Ukraine war is a matter of concern for the UK, with no clear resolution in sight, and its impact on trade, freedom of movement, and the refugee crisis is well-documented.
