Over 7,000 new food businesses to launch in the UK

15th May 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
The UK’s food & beverage sector is set for an influx of new business start-ups through increased interest in franchising, according to a new survey.
The UK Franchise Directory published new statistics on the size of the UK franchise industry in its 22nd edition, which was launched earlier this year. Findings showed that of the 171 food & beverage sector brands operating through franchises in the UK, 96 are currently looking to increase their networks by offering franchise opportunities. These companies are seeking a total of 7,329 franchise owners to complete their networks. The directory's publisher Roy Seaman says: "Redundancy, job insecurity and downturns in many sectors are driving thousands of people across the UK to seriously consider investing in a franchise to secure their future and build a valuable income generator and asset. "The franchise industry has grown in popularity and stature as more and more people realise the benefits of investing in a franchise: namely a more successful and stable way to start your own business while avoiding the common pitfalls associated with self-employment." An example of a beverage brand that is seeking to expand via franchising in the UK is Italian coffee bar La bottega del Caffè. CEO Alessandro Ravecca says: "La bottega del Caffè will bring to the UK market Italian quality, tradition and creativity. Franchising represents the best way to pass on all the experience we have acquired in the business to people who wish to work with us." The 22nd edition of The UK Franchise Directory showcases the booming franchise industry with listings of all UK and Irish franchisors, including McDonald's, Subway, Burger King, Yo! Sushi, Pizza Hut and Coffee Republic.
