Midlothian Council gives free school meal samples to primary pupils
Abstract
To celebrate Challenge Poverty Week, which took place from 7-11th October, all of Midlothian Council’s primary school offered free samples of menu items to pupils.

The free samples offered were from whichever menu dishes were planned for that day. No booking ahead was needed, pupils just needed to ask the catering staff for free samples.

All children in primary one to five are eligible for free school meals and those in years six and seven can also get free lunches If their family is in receipt of certain benefits.

Councillor Ellen Scott, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Young People, said: “Our award-winning primary school meals provide pupils with a healthy and nutritious lunch and I am delighted that we are offering free samples as part of our Challenge Poverty Week activities.”
