Abstract
Despite tough economic times, local businesses have once again joined together to support the Wigan Food and Drink Festival (3-13 March).
Wigan is home to food brand producers and suppliers such as national grocer supplier - Hitchen Foods, ready-to-eat salad suppliers - Hazeldene, vinegar producers - Ellsey's and food giant - Heinz.
These businesses along with other members of the local food and drink sector – including Metrofresh, Wigan Borough Markets and FISWAL Catering Equipment, have contributed close to £20,000 to the foodie fayre – now in its fourth year.
Other highlights of the show include the Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre, 17 restaurant events and a Fine Food Trail. And the CAMRA Wigan Beer Festival will once again kick off the festival.
Keith Bergman, Wigan leisure and culture trust's tourism manager and food festival organiser, said: "We are incredibly lucky to have so many international food and drink businesses located in Wigan Borough. It is down to them and our restaurant partners that we can put on this event. So we're delighted they've shown such an appetite for the festival."
