With the help of Bidfood, Youngs, Premier Foods and Middleton Foods this promotional material can help schools to celebrate the high profile event this summer.
The D-Day operation of June 6th 1944 brought together the forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest amphibious invasion in military history, and many fishing trawlers were requisitioned to help.
The operation, given the codename Overlord, saw five naval assault divisions of British, American and Canadian troops to the beaches of Normandy in France and marked a turning point in the war against Hitler’s Nazi Germany.
There will be 80th anniversary D-Day events held all over the country including parades, lighting beacons around the country as well as serving fish and chips in schools, hospitals, care homes, universities, prisons and, of course, MoD facilities.
LACA chair Anita Brown said: “We know pupils benefit from a hot meal at lunchtime and, as an industry, we know these meals impact so positively on so many lives – this is something to be celebrated. So why not add this event into your promotional calendar for 2024. You can get behind this great event by hosting a theme day to showcase Great British food and remember those who gave their lives for us.
“And don’t forget LACA has a comprehensive portfolio of themed events available free of charge in the same section. Why not use them to plan your calendar or add them to your existing campaign to help increase the uptake of great school lunches.”
The 80 Beacons celebrations will be one of the largest events in the UK this summer. You can visit www.d-day80beacons.co.uk for more information on what’s happening across the country.
There will be events being held all over the country, including:
- The lighting of beacons across the nation
- Town Crier Proclamations
- Parades
- Fish and Chip days
LACA are encouraging you to share this letter with your teams and colleagues and encourage everyone to get behind this great event and host a theme day to showcase Great British food and and remember those who gave their lives for us.
