NSMW has now been running for 30 years and is a flagship promotion organised by LACA. One of the key objectives is to promote the importance and benefits of choosing a hot and nutritious school lunch at mealtime.
Blake said: “I am delighted to be introducing the ‘School Tucker Trial’ which aims to get as many children as possible back into the dining room and enjoying school lunches together. Throughout the week children will have the opportunity to discover new flavours with caterers planning to trial new menus and new concepts around the five themes that LACA has created.
“Getting children back to eating a hot school lunch is essential in helping them recover from the pandemic. We know that for far too many children their school lunch is the only hot meal of the day. Our campaign will not only encourage children back into the dining room but also teach the importance of eating fresh locally produced food that provides better nutrition and is more environmentally sustainable.
“A virtual tour will take place to inspire all those involved in producing healthy and sustainable school meals. I’d like to thank all the LACA regions for getting involved and I look forward to hearing and seeing all of your posts and great stories throughout the week. I hope you all have a great National School Meals Week.”
The five themes for NSMW include:
- Mix It Up Monday
- Food = Fuel (for learning, work and play)
- Ahhh The Great British Roast Dinner
- Plant Based Power Lunch
- School Food Challenge
