Labour MP calls for tipping ‘anomalies’ to disappear
Abstract
Catherine West, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, has called for tipping ‘anomalies’ to disappear after discovering waiting staff in Parliament’s restaurants do not receive tips made by card.

The Labour MP discovered that the tip she was about to leave by card, as she did not have cash, did not directly go to the member of the waiting team because it was being made by card.

West said: “Tipping anomalies must be eradicated across all industries. The likelihood is that if a member of bar staff pulls a pint they might not directly receive a tip, but someone washing your hair will.”

In September, an inquiry was launched by the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills into tipping practices following concerns over how tipping payments are handled in the hospitality sector.
