Abstract
ISS Facilities Services Education has been awarded a three-year contract to supply meals to 17 primary schools in and across Newton Abbot and Dawlish in Devon.

Pupils at the schools have been enjoying a healthy Food for Life Bronze menu, which follows ‘The Food for Life Catering Mark’ criteria that it uses to help guarantee healthy and sustainable school meals.

Newton Abbot Learning Community and ISS jointly wanted to ensure the children at the schools were well fed and decided that the introduction of the Food for Life Bronze standard menu would provide this.

Frances Farley, business manager of Newton Abbot Learning Community said: “The children are thoroughly enjoying their meals and the daily salad bar has been a real winner.

“One school has even had to buy a larger fridge because the children are eating so much more fresh fruit and salad.

“We are very impressed with the service ISS offers and the way they work in partnership with schools.”

With each school working closely with a dedicated area support manager, the schools have been kept well informed about the progress of the new catering venture, enabling vital feedback to be delivered to ISS.

"We really like the way ISS present information about their meals to children and encourage them to try new foods, as well as the meals they know they like,” said David Carr, Dawlish cluster manager.

Mark Davies, divisional director of ISS Facilities Services, said: “Feeding children’s minds is an important criteria for ISS. We understand that providing healthier food improves children’s concentration as well as giving them a chance to try new things.

“Eating should be an enjoyable social experience for learners and we are working very hard with the Dawlish Learning Partnership and Newton Abbot Learning Community to make sure it is.

“We aim to bring a mini food revolution to the schools by working with pupils, parents, teachers and the community to deliver healthier and more exciting food.”
