Abstract
John Cunningham has been appointed as the director of professional development for the Institute of Hospitality; the professional body for individual managers and managers working and studying in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry.
Cunningham will be responsible for the Institute's portfolio of qualifications as well as the range of information services provided by the Institute to its members. His main focus will also be to identify and nurture relationships with high quality centres to increase the availability of the Institute's qualifications. He has held previous positions at the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), the leading professional body for technician level accountancy staff and the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC), the professional body for the UK's £27bn recruitment industry. He commented on his appointment: "I am delighted to have joined the Institute of Hospitality and steer the next phase of the education and training programme. The qualifications have recently undergone a significant review and we now have a practical, lean set of qualifications in leadership and management. "The Institute has a long and esteemed history in training and developing the hospitality managers of today and the future, worldwide, so I am excited to be playing a part in the industry's development."
