Innovate UK awards FSG grant for NHS net zero research project
Abstract
Innovate UK, which provides money and support to organisations looking to make new products and services, has awarded supplier of reusable packaging and dinnerware products FSG a grant for an NHS net zero research project.

This grant will facilitate a collaborative research project with Nottingham Trent University’s Product Design Team, with a focus on developing net zero user-centric reusable packaging to replace single-use disposables currently used in NHS Hospital patient feeding.

A spokesperson for FSG said: “The core objective of the project is to deliver systemic changes, transitioning from disposable to reusable packaging across a diverse array of stakeholders. The anticipated outcomes include the development of user-centric reusable packaging products and systems, substantial reductions in CO2 emissions, significant financial savings and a considerable decrease in waste disposal.

“FSG is taking a leadership role in a doctoral school at Strathclyde University. This initiative aims to explore the social dimensions of reusable plastics, with a specific focus on messaging and behaviour change, particularly within hospital settings.

“This collaborative effort, in conjunction with the overarching research project, will incorporate multifaceted strategies aimed at reducing single use packaging, encompassing patient, visitor and staff feeding in NHS and healthcare foodservice settings. We are committed to advancing sustainable practices in healthcare and other foodservice settings and are proud to be at the forefront of these impactful research activities.”
