Fuel for Life for school children

9th Sep 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
A campaign has been introduced to get school children to sign up for school meals rather than taking a packed lunch every day.
'Fuel for Life', designed by Northumberland County Council, is aimed at both parents and pupils and explains the benefits of tucking into one of the new-style healthy two course lunches on offer every day at schools throughout Northumberland. A two course meal on offer at schools throughout the county will cost between £1.90 in a first school to £2.20 in a high school. Menu selections include Moroccan Lamb, Beef Bourguinon with Pasta, Vegetable Lasagne and homebaked Oat Cookie with Fruit Smoothie. Leaflets and posters are being distributed to parents and pupils, outlining the benefits of eating a well-balanced meal every day. Rudy Imhoof, head of facilities management operations for Northumberland County Council, said the campaign offers a win win situation for parents and children: "The new-style meals are tasty, filling and they provide the perfect nutritional balance for your child. They are great value for money too, because they have pegged the prices for the coming academic year." Weblink: www.fuelforlife.co.uk
