Former chef David Croft offers ‘Food for Thought’ for Hospitality Action

Abstract
Former chef David Croft has written a book, part life story – part cookbook, with funds from each copy sold coming to industry charity Hospitality Action and Regain, The Trust for Sports Tetraplegics.
David, a 2nd Dan black belt at karate became paralysed from the shoulders down over 30 years ago in a diving accident – on the same day that he was informed he would compete in the 1980 world karate championships and inaugural world games. Prior to the accident, David had worked at the Savoy and Churchill hotels along with hotels in Cornwall. Food for Thought is a combination of life story, karate, cooking and disability with 30 of the best chefs in Britain, including Gary Rhodes, Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsay, contributing recipes and photographs. The book aims to make eating out or at home easier for disabled people and will also educate the hospitality industry as to the best ways of catering for disabled guests and diners leading up to the 2012 Olympics and in the future. Penny More, Chief Executive of Hospitality Action says: "We are grateful to David for thinking of Hospitality Action. To have esteemed chefs such as James Martin and Mark Hix contribute is a testament to his hard work and dedication." Ticky Donovan OBE, 9th Dan says: "David's story is a great read, demonstrating not only his own achievements but also the achievements of others who have sustained a spinal cord injury in a sporting accident. The cookbook section has some great recipes – who knows, I might even try one or two of them myself." To celebrate the publication of Food for Thought David will be at the Hotel Victoria, Newquay, Cornwall on Saturday October 29th for a 'Pasty and Pint' book signing. This will also include a charity auction and entertainment with all funds from the auction going to Hospitality Action and Regain.
