Abstract
Food technology company LiberEat has called for food businesses to go beyond compliance to actively protect consumers against allergens after becoming a certified B Corporation.

Achieving a B Corporation certification is the first in a series of ‘game-changing’ developments of LiberEat with forthcoming plans to champion food safety and prevent errors before they reach consumers.

Barry Leaper, founder and chief executive of LiberEat, commented: “With food safety under the spotlight more than ever, companies must go beyond compliance to actively protect consumers. We’ve always championed this mission and now, our commitment has been recognised with B Corp Certification.

“For us, being a B Corporation holds a huge amount of weight and is far more than a marketing badge; it is validation of our dedication to making the food industry safer, smarter and more accountable, and will continue to guide our decision-making as we enter our next stage of business growth.”

He founded LiberEat in 2016 to make food safer for everyone. Leaper experienced the difficulty food allergies can cause when shopping and dining in restaurants with his wife and mother’s dietary requirements. LiberEat has detected 3,600 errors in the past eighteen months.

The company provides ‘innovative’ technology to restaurant chains, caterers, supermarkets, and food producers and manufacturers, which detects errors in allergen or ingredient information before they reach the consumer - preventing serious harm, costly recalls and reputational damage.
