Abstract
The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has appointed Barbara Gallani to the post of director of food safety and science, replacing Helen Munday who leaves FDF at the end of this year for a role at Coca-Cola.
Gallani will start in her new role in January 2010. Gallani is currently an FDF manager with responsibility for Public Affairs and the Biscuit, Cake, Chocolate and Confectionery Sector Group.
In her new role, she will be responsible for the development, implementation and promotion of FDF's policy with respect to scientific, technical and regulatory issues. This includes the evaluation of Government and EU policies as they affect the UK food and drink industry and the representation of FDF's policy to a wide range of stakeholders in the UK and EU.
Her career has included working with the Food Standards Agency, the European Commission, the British Retail Consortium and BEUC (the European Consumers' Organisation).
Melanie Leech, FDF director general, said: "All of FDF's work is underpinned by science and evidence and so this is a key role for the organisation. Barbara brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role and I am delighted to welcome her as part of the senior management team."
