Eleven Leicestershire schools achieve Food for Life Award throughout 2024
Abstract
Eleven Leicestershire schools have achieved a Food for Life award in 2024, demonstrating their commitment to serving up and learning about good food.

Schools who hold this award have proved that they serve high quality, freshly prepared and locally sourced school meals. The schools also regularly run cooking activities for pupils, some grow their own food and others have pupil-led school food action groups.

The awarded schools in Leicestershire are:

  • Hollycroft Primary School
  • Woodstone Primary School
  • Measham Primary School
  • Church Hill Juniors Primary School
  • Croft Primary School
  • Townlands Primary School
  • Long Whatton Primary School
  • Foxton Primary School
  • Battling Brook Primary School
  • Hallbrook Primary School
  • Great Glen Primary School

One Food for Life school, Newbold Verdon Primary recently cooked Bombay-style chickpeas with their pupils.

Nicola, deputy head at the school, said: “They absolutely loved it. They enjoyed seeing the process from start to finish – opening tins, smelling spices, putting things together. They definitely want to try chickpeas again and are hoping they’ll cook them at home too. Often, children don’t want to try new food, but every single pupil did try it and enjoyed it.”
