Compass currently serves over 5,500 portions of fish and chips across the UK every week in Tesco cafés.
The cod is hand battered on site and cooked to order, while guideline daily amounts (GDA) information is displayed as part of Compass’s Know Your Food programme – which provides customers with details of the nutritional content of their food.
As well as recent innovations to this popular dish, including flavoured batter options such as balsamic vinegar and mild chilli, fresh tartar sauce and lemon are served with each portion while peas have been enhanced with fresh mint.
To ensure that standards remain consistently high, Compass and Tesco have also implemented a mystery shopper programme across stores.
Organised by Seafish, the awards recognise businesses for their food quality, marketing initiatives, training policies and commercial awareness.
