Abstract
Ten Facilities managers from Compass Group UK & Ireland are celebrating after completing the UK's first Advanced Apprenticeship in Facilities Management at National Grid's Warwick HQ.
The Advanced Apprenticeship in FM, a nationally recognised qualification that includes a Level 3 NVQ, Key Skills, Technical Certificate and classroom-based learning, was trialled and developed by Compass in conjunction with Asset Skills (the Sector Skills Council for Facilities Management) and the Training and Learning Company. As the first advanced apprenticeship in FM available anywhere in the UK, this marks a significant milestone in attracting and developing professionals in the growing FM industry. The apprentices, most of whom are heads of departments in Eurest Services' multi-service National Grid contract, covered the following units in just four months to complete the course: developing Yourself & Others; leadership & Management Skills; FM and Effective Service Delivery; Managing People; Managing a Budget; Health and Safety in the Context of FM; Mental Toughness and Risk Management. Karen Waterlow, FM specialist advisor at Asset Skills, the Sector Skills Council for Facilities Management said: "This has been an inspirational project in so many ways from the commitment of Compass, to the dedication and hard work of the candidates and the motivational approach of the training provider. We are delighted the project has been so successful and congratulate all involved."
