The poll revealed that cheesecake (42%) is the nation’s favourite dessert followed by fruit crumble (39%) and then ice cream (33%).
Fraser Chynoweth, foodservice sales director at Tate & Lyle Sugars, said: “With the UK foodservice sector forecast to grow by £10bn to £56.3bn by 2019, a well-balanced dessert menu, which includes the nation’s favourite desserts, is one way outlets can increase the amount customers spend with them.”
The ‘Lyle’s Golden Syrup Dessert Survey 2015’ also reveals that nearly six in ten consumers prefer desserts to starters. More than half (54%) of those surveyed said having a greater variety of dessert options and being able to try innovative new desserts were key factors in tempting them to purchase a pudding when eating out.
In the survey, the results showed that the optimum price point on a menu for a dessert is between £4 and £6, with 45% of diners agreeing.
