Abstract
Chartwells, part of the Compass Group UK and Ireland, has signed a £360,000 contract with the Llandovery College in Carmarthenshire, Wales, to provide pupils with freshly baked bread and home-made yoghurts, soups and pastries on a daily basis.
As a popular venue for weddings and conferences, Chartwells will also provide silver-service hospitality and fine dining for events at the 160 year-old school.
The contract also includes the installation of a coffee bar serving Costa Coffee's Rainforest Alliance produce in the sixth-form centre. Visitors using the school's extensive sports facilities will be able to visit the coffee bar after school hours.
Ian Hunt, Warden of Llandovery College, said: "Here at Llandovery College, healthy eating and healthy living are integral to our whole-school philosophy. We are extremely pleased to welcome Chartwells into our close-knit community and look forward to the contribution the team will make, serving delicious and nutritious meals to our pupils, staff and visitors and helping to educate all our young people about the benefits of a balanced and healthy diet."
Tony Byrne, business director, Chartwells, added: "We are delighted to win this contract with Llandovery College where Chartwells' Eat, Learn, Live philosophy can come to life. We take our responsibility in providing students with all of their daily meals very seriously and will ensure that they receive a balanced diet, appropriate for their needs."
In addition, Chartwells executive development chef, Paul Smith, will be based at the College and will be responsible for the menu creation for students' meals and the fine dining hospitality, ensuring that meals support the specific dietary requirements of all of our pupils and guests.
