Abstract
With a special promotion titled Street Food Week, contract catering specialist Catermasters aimed to bring the ‘buzz and excitement’ of today’s Street Food culture to all client sites at the beginning of July, according to joint managing director Tony Carr.

“We used Street Food Week as a way of highlighting some of the core values that underpin the company’s new Food is Everything brand.

“This brand reflects our passion for cooking great tasting food, using the freshest and best locally-sourced ingredients, and giving its customers a memorable food experience.”

Each day of the Street Food promotion had a different theme to provide clients and customers with different tastes and Street Food styles. Themes included Mediterranean Magic, Mexican Wave, Roast on the Go, American Classics and Indian Treats.

“We also invited lots of local suppliers to take part in each themed day as a way of raising awareness about food provenance and showcasing produce that’s available locally.”

The catering contractor recreated a typical Street Food scene in many of its restaurants to generate an authentic atmosphere.

During its successful ‘Mexican Wave’ event at the Oxford University Press site in Oxford, Catermasters cooked all of the Street Food dishes outside, hired props, brought in a Mariachi band to provide authentic music and catering staff wore traditional Mexican dress.

The ‘Street Food Week’ promotion ran across all 120 of the company’s client sites in the UK.

“The promotion was very warmly received by clients and customers alike. They enjoyed a completely new food experience and learned a lot more about us as a company,” said Carr.

“Many commented on how it was really refreshing to learn about an emerging food trend and to meet some of the fantastic suppliers that many didn’t know were on their doorstep.”
