Total sales for the group over the last 24 weeks was £2.59 billion, up 2.5% against the same period last year. A 7.5% rise in non-tobacco sales helped offset a 9% fall in the sale of tobacco.
Chief executive, Charles Wilson, said: “The drive into the catering market is working- customer satisfaction was 89.2%.
“We continue to help our retail, catering and small business customers prosper through improving our choice, prices and service."
Booker’s operating profit was up 9% at £89.1 million and its profit after tax was £74.7 million, a rise of 10%.
The company listed internet sales (up 11%) and "strong progress" in its Londis and Budgens convenience stores as operational highlights for the period.
Booker Group agreed to a takeover by Tesco in January this year, estimated to be worth £3.7 billion, with the deal currently going through a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) review process.
Booker said it expected provisional findings to be made public by the CMA by the end of October, ahead of a final report by the end of the year. It expects the merger to be complete in early 2018.
