Abstract
Six in ten caterers (61.5%) are too scared to ask their employer for a pay rise, according to new research by independent jobs board CV-Library.

According to the survey, on 2,300 British professionals, catering workers are less confident to ask for a raise than they were a year ago, when the result showed 52.8% were happy to request one.

With 68% of professional caterers struggling to make ends meet, they are more likely to apply for a new roles elsewhere (71.2%), to secure a higher paid role.

Lee Biggins, founder and chief executive of CV-Library, said: “It's worrying to see that so many professionals in the catering industry are struggling to make ends meet across the UK.

“The cost of living is continuing to rise and when the economy is so uncertain, it’s clear that companies in the catering industry just can’t keep up in terms of pay.

“It’s unsustainable for staff to keep working at a financial deficit and it’s up to businesses [to] do their best to offer employees reasonable salaries. If you don’t, you’ll run the risk of losing talented staff.”

Over half of catering workers run out of money before they get paid, with over half (53.8%) failing to make it until payday.
