An advisory group of senior industry leaders met recently to discuss the key issues to be raised.
Those taking part included James Berresford, chief executive of Visit England; Karen Friebe of DLA Piper; Stephen McCall, UK and Ireland managing director for InterContinental Hotels Group; Paula Moon, Nestlé Professional brand manager; and Andrew Taylor, national head of leisure with RBS Commercial Banking.
The hospitality and tourism industry continues to grow and promoting careers in the industry will be high on the agenda at the 2013 Summit.
Delegates will be networking with young talent and hearing more about BHA’s Big Conversation for Hospitality. At the event, industry leaders will also present senior Government ministers with pledges to create new training vacancies and apprenticeships.
Ufi Ibrahim, chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, said: “In 2012, we started out on our journey towards greater recognition and growth.
“Ours is already a leading UK industry demonstrating huge economic potential. We must aim further - to be recognised as a major competitor in the global marketplace.
“2013 will be the time to start actively realising our ambitions, and crucial to our ongoing success is the need to invest in our best resource, our young people.
“We are asking hospitality and tourism businesses from across the UK to join us at the Hospitality and Tourism Summit on June 11th to make a pledge to attract young people into hospitality, increase youth employment and reduce our skill shortages.”
Conference agenda and speakers for the 2013 Summit are due to be announced in February.
