Abstract
Birmingham City Council has launched the Agency's Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS).

Residents and visitors to the city will be able to check the hygiene ratings of more than 6,500 food businesses at food.gov.uk/ratings.

More than 50% of Birmingham businesses have achieved the highest rating of five.

The FHRS helps diners choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, hotels, as well as in supermarkets and other food shops.

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, 93% of local authorities are now running the FHRS. Birmingham City Council has the largest number of recorded hygiene ratings for any local authority.
