Abstract
In January 2014, London will gain a landmark museum dining room with the opening of Great Court Restaurant at the British Museum by Benugo, the café-deli chain acquired by contract caterer BaxterStorey in 2007 that is now is part of parent group Westbury Street Holdings (WSH).

Benugo has grown from a collection of award-winning high street stores to include high-profile restaurants and cafés within some of the world’s largest and most respected museums, public spaces and historic buildings including V&A, Natural History Museum, Ashmolean and Edinburgh Castle.

The redesigned Great Court Restaurant will be set on a mezzanine floor above the world-famous Reading Room and directly beneath the curved steel and glass roof of the Norman Foster-designed Great Court.

Complete with a brand new central restaurant entrance, additional communal dining tables, an open kitchen and a central charcuterie table, Great Court has also now become more accessible.

This latest venture from the Benugo family of restaurants. Its kitchen will be led by newly appointed head chef Jason Wass, who says he will focus on high quality, locally-sourced food and take a fresh look at traditional European dishes. The restaurant will open daily for lunch and afternoon tea, with an additional dinner service every Friday.

The restaurant now has three new dining areas, overlooking the open kitchen, brasserie-style banquette seating for more intimate and private meals, as well as two re-vamped wings for private dining on either side of the restaurant.

Founded in 1998 by Ben and Hugh Warner, also operates restaurants within Hyde Park, Regent’s Park and Lincoln’s Inns Fields. In autumn 2013, Benugo collaborated with charity House of St Barnabas to open a not-for-profit private members club at 1 Greek Street.
