Abstract
The British Dietetic Association (BDA) has launched a drive called Nutrition in the Workplace Workshops to help UK businesses improve staff health and well-being and cut absenteeism.
BDA spokesman Alison Clark said that looking at nutrition and wellbeing in the workplace could help improve employee health and performance, which was fundamental to any business. The new workshops initiative includes a number of elements, but can be adapted to meet the needs of individual companies and tailored to meet agreed objectives. Nutrition Workshops include: Good Mood Food. How to Sustain Yourself Through a Busy Working Day-The Healthy Way! Heart Health. Eating Well for Cancer Prevention – the Facts! Clark added: "Other elements include 'Food Demos' that showcase simple, yet nutritious meals, illustrating how easy it is to make quick, healthy and tasty meals with everyday ingredients that can be stored in the top draw of your desk." Another aspect will be Nutrition Clinic Days, the idea being to offer private personal consultations with a dietitian. Clark said: "On average, a full-time employee will spend around 60% of their time in the workplace and eat and drink at least a third of their daily calorie allowance during this time. "Too often, the stress and time constraints while at work means healthy food choices are often over looked in favour of fast and convenient food. However, it doesn't have to be this way. "Our brand new Nutrition in the Workplace Workshops offer employees and employers alike a unique opportunity to look at what they are eating, the eating patterns they follow and offer fantastic opportunities to follow a healthier diet and lifestyle while at work."
