Abstract
Sue Cawthray, who is currently in her third term as chair of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC), tells us in her Public Sector Catering 'Most Influential' interview that recruitment into the care sector is a longstanding problem, but she has 'never known it this bad' in her 27 years in the industry.

She says: "There are no staff for us to recruit into the care sector. What we need is the Government to make it easier and more attractive to enable us to recruit from abroad and to provide funding to train staff when we get them.

"There might be training schemes out there, but if they cost £5,000, then care homes don't have that sort of money. So we need both  the means to bring in workers more easily from abroad and funding to help increase the skills of our workforce."

In her time leading the NACC, which represents chefs, catering managers, care home owners and suppliers to the sector, Sue has been notable for pursuing higher standards of care catering and championing the positive impact that good nutrition, hydration and mealtimes have on the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of the elderly and vulnerable.

In her day job she is chief executive of Harrogate Neighbours, an award-winning operation that provides residential care, community care and meals on wheels in the local area.
