Bidfood's Andy Kemp on the impact of climate change on food supply

Abstract
Andy Kemp, executive director of the Bidfood Group, is the latest on Public Sector Catering's 'most influential' list to join us for an interview. In looking ahead to the challenges facing the catering industry he highlights the climate crisis, and its effect on food production, and the increased pressures caused by the cost-of-living crisis.

In a long and successful career with Bidfood, Andy has gained a huge amount of experience as a foodservice industry networker and has all the important contacts in his book.

In 2019 he was awarded an MBE for his ‘outstanding services to the foodservice and hospitality industry’, work for which he was also awarded an honorary degree by the University of West London.

He has used that influence to push the Government of the day repeatedly to increase the funding of school meals, sending letters to both Boris Johnson and then Liz Truss showing that the £2.41 allocation for universal infant free school meals should be closer to £3 to account for food price inflation.

He sits on the board of the One For All Foundation, and has worked closely with school meals organisation LACA and the All Party Parliamentary Group on School Food.
