Abstract
The Cost Sector Catering Awards provide the highlight of the foodservice and catering calendar. There's simply no other arena that offers the people who work in it the chance to be judged by their peers and come through to win industry-wide recognition as the best.

Armed Services Award Sponsored by Purple Foodservice Solutions Leading Chef Richard Tame RN Judges said Leading Chef Tame has not only built up an excellent reputation as a chef but, importantly, as a strong leader who has bags of energy and determination to succeed. Through sheer hard work and a 'can-do' attitude he has earned the respect of the Command and colleagues on board. Chef Award Sponsored by Gourmet Classic Peter Bartholdy Judges said that Peter's commitment to his work with Doncaster Deaf Trust was outstanding: He endlessly works on interesting recipes for the many children with allergies and food intolerances, keeps all this within budget and is even learning sign language. Contract Catering Award Sponsored by Nestlé Professional Pabulum Judges said Pabulum earned this award with a performance last year that included a 25% rise in income from education customers, excellent staff training and development schemes, a string of successful initiatives with clients, and its breakthrough into a new market with independent school contract gains. Contract Catering District Manager Award Sponsored by Nero & Blanco Lisa Raynor Judges said it was clear Lisa was a hard worker with lots of innovative ideas, but what particularly impressed them were the comments of colleagues. They described as phenomenal the time and effort she still managed to give schools even though her workload was increased when she was given responsibility for Nottingham's secondary schools as well as the primaries. Corporate Responsibility Award Sponsored by 3663 First for Foodservice Sodexo Judges said Sodexo had a very strong entry that offered good evidence across a range of CSR activities; however it was particularly compelling on its Marine Stewardship Council fish initiative, the company's Spirit of Inclusion training scheme and many examples of community engagement. Education Award Sponsored by Premier Foods Hampshire County Council Catering Services Judges particularly liked the relationships Hampshire has built with local suppliers to provide bespoke products such as buffalo burgers and Hampshire apple juice from local foods, and its detailed, regular dialogue with head teachers on the quality of service. Event Caterer Award Sponsored by Fresh RM organisers of Hotelympia Creativevents Judges said the professionalism of Creativevents, its continuing knack for innovation and the constant push to overturn the accepted way things have been done in the events market made this company's nomination outstanding. Healthcare Award Sponsored by Unilever Foodsolutions Neil Hathaway Judges said Neil's pioneering approach has seen him oversee the removal of the cook-freeze concept across all his Trust's sites and replace it with fresh and home-grown food prepared from scratch by the Trust's own catering staff. Marketing Award Sponsored by Atlantic Creative Services National Association of Care Catering (NACC) Judges said the quality of entries in this category made it one of the hardest to decide. The NACC campaign achieved what it set out to do by raising awareness of malnutrition-related illness, generating plenty of mass media coverage and positioning the association as the go-to voice of care catering. Public Sector Award Sponsored by Fretwell Downing Hospitality Alberto Crisci Judges were hugely impressed by the drive of Al Crisci in taking an idea he had back in 2005 through to the reality of The Clink Restaurant inside HMP High Down today. They said it offered a fantastic example of rehabilitation through the training and experience it offers offenders. Social Care Award Sponsored by apetito John Figgins Judges liked John's energy and the range of ideas he's had that link catering to a number of other initiatives that improve the quality of life of care home residents, alert care and emergency services, and educate young people about community care programmes.
