Matthew White selects Phil Shelley & Louise Wagstaffe as recipients of Chair’s Award

21st Nov 2024 - 08:46
Abstract
Immediate past chair of the Public Sector Catering Alliance Matthew White gave the Chair’s Award to Phil Shelley and Louise Wagstaffe to reward them for their dedication to improving the quality of public sector food.

The duo received their Chair’s Award at the inaugural Public Sector Catering Alliance Forum that took place this week at the Leonardo Hinckley Island Hotel in Leicestershire.

The event aims to bring together industry leaders from different parts of the sector to discuss common issues, share best practice and collaborate to improve the catering provision in the public sector.

Wagstaffe received the Chair’s Award for her ‘firm but fair’ competition judging, her dedication to developing products that meet the school food standards and for working across multiple supply chains. Shelley was recognised for championing local produce in hospitals, developing competitions and devising procurement strategies.

Speaking about the duo, White said: “This year I have selected two very special people. These two people dedicate themselves to improving public food quality. They focus not only on the product or service, but also on the people and their development and the dividends that can pay for the customer or user of a service as well as the individuals who grow their skills and knowledge.

“Development is key to both of their thought processes in how they go about growing and shaping public food production and delivery. Both again take ideas from concept to completion and are certainly both completer finishers even though they have extremely busy and demanding schedules.

“Both are the epitome of public food people, I am proud to have worked with them, to have learned from them both and as I said earlier to count them among my public sector catering heroes.”

Jayne Jones has now taken over as chair of the Public Sector Catering Alliance after Matthew White completed his term in office.
