Abstract
Seafood wholesaler M&J Seafood has launched aquaculture stewardship council (ASC) king prawns – the first to be certified responsibly farmed and sustainable in the UK foodservice.
According to new research by Fish2fork – who rate restaurants according to the sustainability of their seafood - and the Marine Conservation Society, high street restaurants and pubs need to do more to prevent seafood being overfished, with prawns identified as one of the most problematic ingredients.
In attempt to minimalise damage caused by restaurants and pubs, M&J Seafood’s new ASC king prawns have minimal glaze and no additives, and are supplied raw, peeled and deveined in 1kg bags.
