Abstract
This year’s World Pasty Championships will see over 200 junior, amateur and professional bakers go head-to-head on Saturday (3 March), as they battle it out for the eight winning titles.

“Celebrating the traditional Cornish pasty recipe as well as some more unusual varieties,” the competition is divided into two sections - Cornish pasties and open savoury categories – with the panel of 30 judges awarding a company, professional, amateur and junior winner for each.

Now in its seventh year, Cornwall-based host the Eden Project has once again partnered with the Cornish Pasty Association (CPA) to include the World Pasty Championships Crimping Challenge this year, as well as a line-up of live music.

Eden spokesman David Rowe said: “Our seventh pasty championships beckon with a great bill of entertainment and some serious competition across all classes.

“It looks certain that Saturday’s contest will be the biggest ever - what a great way to end a whole week celebrating the first-ever Cornish Pasty Week (25 February-3 March) - Cornwall’s culinary gift to the globe.

“Our thanks as ever go to the CPA for partnering with us in the event and bringing so much to the table.”

Past contestant and two-time amateur winner, Terry O’Connor, added: “I’ve been every year and I never want to miss it. I’ll be back!”
