Wonky veg box scheme launched to reduce waste
Abstract
London’s first wonky fruit and vegetable box scheme, Oddbox, has been launched to help combat food waste.

Oddbox, founded by husband and wife Deepak Ravindran and Emilie Vanpoperinghe, delivers misshapen produce to businesses in Central London as well as homes in South London.

Oddbox are able to buy and sell the fruit and vegetables for a discounted price as it would have otherwise not been sold or sold in wholesale markets or for animal feed.

Vanpoperinghe said: “Odd produce is just as nutritious and delicious as standard fresh produce.

“They do not see supermarket shelves because of restrictions placed by supermarkets like size, shape or colour or because they are surplus to requirements.”

According to the Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP), estimated annual food waste is at around 10 million tonnes and valued at around £17 billion.
