Abstract
London-based ‘wonky’ fruit and veg box scheme, Oddbox, ‘smashed’ its £350,000 crowdfunding target this week, to help expand its service across the capital.

Encouraging more people to eat wonky produce, the ‘purpose-driven’ independent business is on a mission to “shift food standards and normalise wonky produce.”

With 85 office and 1,600 residential clients, the company currently delivers its weekly boxes of wonky and surplus fruit and veg across London, but claims to have a waiting list of 3,000+ people.

All produce has been ‘rescued’ from farms and would have otherwise been wasted, for which the company pays farmers a ‘fair price’ and donates up to 10% to tackle food poverty by partnering with charities including City Harvest.

Having raised £520,000, Oddbox ‘smashed’ its £350,000 target, which will be used to upgrade its tech platform, build the brand, optimise operations and expand the expertise within the team.

Co-founder Emilie Vanpoperinghe said: “We are incredibly humbled to have exceeded our investment target in such a short space of time.

“The support we have had from customers and investors has been phenomenal and we can’t thank them enough.

“We believe wholeheartedly in our wonky fruit and veg scheme and we’re looking forward to bringing it to more people.

“We won’t stop there though, our mission is to fundamentally shift food standards and eventually, normalise wonky produce and we need everyone to get involved. Come and join the wonky veg revolution with us!”
