Abstract
Zhan Hong Yu of the Royal China Club in London has been crowned this year's Chinese Masterchef.
The winning chef has been awarded with £1,000, flights to the Far East as well as achieving the Masterchef title. Now in its fifth year, competition entrants were judged on their skill, creativity, originality and standards of food hygiene. The judging panel included Chinese Masterchef William Poon, college head of culinary arts, Gary Hunter and the executive chef of the Royal Garden Hotel, Steve Munkley. Norman Fu, senior chef lecturer at Westminster Kingsway College, who helped to coordinate the event, commented: "It is a great experience for our students to see the different foods on display and to see the top-level competition. The event also brings members of the local Chinese Community into Westminster Kingsway College to see the range of culinary courses that we offer." A donation from the competition was presented to the Chinese Embassy for the Chinese Earthquake Relief Fund. The competition, hosted by Westminster Kingsway College, is organised by the City of Westminster Council's Food Hygiene Team. Weblink: www.westking.ac.uk
