Abstract
Organisers of the Mövenpick Gourmet Dessert Chef 2014 challenge have named award-winning pastry chef and chocolatier Will Torrent as compère for the live final in London on September 25.

Having worked alongside Heston Blumenthal and Jamie Oliver, and with a second cookery book ‘Chocolate at Home’ due for release in September, Torrent will provide support and encouragement for six finalists as they strive to impress the judges with their original recipe.

UK national chocolate master Ruth Hinks, who came fifth in the World Chocolate Masters competition last November, and The Langham’s award-winning executive pastry chef Cherish Finden will work with the other judges, Stockpot editor Sheila Eggleston and Restaurant Magazine’s feature editor Joe Lutrario, to find an innovative dish that demonstrates culinary skill and uses Mövenpick ice cream as an integral component of the dessert.

One winner will be selected, who will go on to receive a luxury two-day spa break in Edinburgh, along with a private chocolate showpiece course with Ruth Hinks at her Cocoa Black Chocolate & Pastry School in Peebles.

Last year’s winner was Ben Sulston, executive chef for Compass at Sevenoaks School in Kent, who produced an outstanding dessert using Mövenpick’s pear sorbet.

Torrent said: “I’m delighted to be involved in this fantastic competition, especially given my love of Mövenpick ice cream. The high calibre judges are sure to put the finalists through their paces, which will certainly make for an exciting live final.”

Following a successful launch in March, the competition remains open for entries until June 16. To enter, professional chefs must register via the Mövenpick Ice Cream website before submitting their innovative recipe by July 7.
