The panel of judges praised Diavolo as having ‘a lovely, long-tasting aroma’ as well as ‘a pleasant, deep, rich, long-lasting crema’.
Fergus Walsh, managing director of The Wicked Coffee Company, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been awarded Gold Star accreditation for Diavolo by such a prestigious organisation as The Guild of Fine Food.
“It’s a reflection on the great work done by the whole team here at Wicked Coffee.”
Products awarded Gold Star accreditation undergo a rigorous assessment process by the Guild, being tasted by no fewer than 16 judges on three different panels.
This year almost 9,000 products were entered for the awards, but fewer than 3,000 met the judges’ demanding criteria.
Walsh said Diavolo was a smooth and balanced blend of mocha and Central American coffees with a touch of robusta.
“It has a good body with a subtle caramel and butterscotch sweetness, balanced with deep chocolate and citrus fruit notes.”
The Gold Star accolade is just the latest success in a year that has seen Wicked Coffee’s sales grow by a recession-busting 20%.
The company recently also signed a lucrative contract to provide coffee services to the RAF and continues to supply many of the UK’s universities through the National Union of Student Services Ltd (NUSSL).
It has also just launched a service called Wicked Coffee Web that is designed to help customers order vending machines and supplies online.
