Abstract
The nation’s perfect roast dinner has been revealed, including the most popular meats and just how many Yorkshire puds should be on the plate.

The survey, which comes at the start of British Roast Dinner Week found that the perfect roast dinner comprises three slices of roast beef, three roast potatoes, two Yorkshire puddings, carrots, peas, broccoli and thick gravy poured all over the plate.

Beef is by far the most popular choice with 34% of Brits choosing it, followed by lamb (21%), chicken (20%) and pork being the fourth most popular.

An overwhelming majority of Brits (85%) think Yorkshires should accompany all roast dinners, not just beef, and only 7% don’t want any on the plate.

When it comes to roast potatoes, a third of Brits think three is the optimum number, while almost a quarter want a heap of five or more in their roast dinner.

Interestingly, women favour the Brussels sprout more than men, with almost half (44%) think sprouts are part of an ideal roast dinner. Men are more likely to want no veg at all.

Almost two thirds (61%) think gravy is ‘absolutely vital’ to a roast and only four in 100 want their roast dry. Almost half (45%) want the gravy poured all over the plate, while 31% want a gravy boat to be available so they can do it themselves.

British Roast Dinner Week (26th September - 2nd October) has teamed up with The Mirror this year to celebrate the roast and to find Britain’s Best Roast Dinner, with the winner set to be announced at the end of the week.
